Infant Acne

You may have started to notice that your baby has a lot of little red pimples on their face and maybe just below their neck on their chest.  It’s like all their little pores are making pimples at the same time.  This is called infant acne.  The cause is not clear, but seems to be related to hormonal changes. It may look painful, but usually it does not cause your baby any distress, you just may not want to schedule a baby picture during this time.  Infant acne will clear up on its own.  You do not need to clean their face or put lotion on them more than usual, or do anything else special to their skin.  If it seems to be bothering your baby or you are concerned about it, check with your healthcare provider.
