Breastfeeding A to Z

Postpartum Depression

The “baby blues” are common in the first couple of weeks after delivery.  It is often experienced as tearfulness, or feelings of irritability, anxiety or sadness. (1)  Consider the following for improving how you feel:

  • seek connection with other new mother’s or other emotional support
  • get help with household tasks
  • exercise
  • try to be realistic about your expectations
  • rest

If your symptoms persist for more than 2 weeks you need to see your healthcare provider for assistance.  Do not suffer in silence–ask for help.
