Rest First

I can remember my mom telling me to slow down that first week home from the hospital with my first baby.  Yes, I was getting up several times per night, but I had thing I wanted to do when my daughter was sleeping.  When else was I going to get it done?

My wise mother just let me go ahead.  By week two I was exhausted.  Fortunately, my mom was still staying with us and helped me pick-up the pieces.  I found out I needed to rest or sleep when my baby slept; the rest of the household jobs could be done by someone else or just be delayed.  Not always easy to rest first, but otherwise I couldn’t function to accomplish my most important job–taking care of myself and my baby.  Consider resting first.
